What is ICAgile certification?

ICAgile, the International Consortium for Agile, is an accreditation and certification body that defines learning outcomes for agile competencies and then certifies the member organisations and instructors who teach them. Unlike a single-framework credential, ICAgile is deliberately framework-agnostic. Its courses teach the values, mindset, and principles that sit underneath Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and design thinking, rather than the mechanics of one method alone.

You earn an ICAgile certification by completing an accredited course delivered by an approved member organisation, such as Agile Visa. There is no separate multiple-choice exam to pass. Certification is awarded on completion of the required learning hours and the experiential activities built into the class. This matters because the credential signals applied capability developed in a facilitated room, not a memorised answer key.

The ICAgile certification track map

ICAgile is methodology-neutral and mindset-based. Rather than certifying you in one framework, it groups its certifications into learning roadmaps that build genuine, framework-agnostic competence. The roadmaps are a loose guide, not a rigid ladder. You are welcome to take any course in any order, and most professionals begin with a foundation and then follow the roadmap that matches their role. Every credential is practitioner-led and earned in a live, interactive class rather than through a multiple-choice exam.

Foundations

• Agile Fundamentals (ICP) introduces agile values, principles, and core practices. It is the recommended entry point for almost everyone and the shared mindset the specialist roadmaps assume.
• Business Agility Foundations (ICP-BAF) extends the foundation beyond software teams into how an organisation senses, decides, and adapts as a whole.

For many people the most valuable route is the team coaching roadmap. Agile Team Facilitation gives you the room skills, and ICP-ACC turns you into a credible agile coach. Whichever roadmap fits your goal, read each course page for the specific learning outcomes before you commit.

ICAgile certification cost and what affects it

ICAgile does not set a single global price. Each member organisation determines its own fee for the class, and the certification is included in that course fee. This means cost varies by track, by region, and by the depth and length of the programme. A foundation course such as ICP typically runs over two to three days of live training, while expert-level coaching credentials require more contact time and prior experience.

When you compare prices, look past the headline figure. Ask how many live hours you receive, whether the instructor is an ICAgile Authorised Instructor, whether the class is genuinely interactive or a recorded walkthrough, and what post-class support is included. Validity: ICAgile certifications never expire

This is one of the strongest practical reasons professionals choose ICAgile. Every ICAgile certification is a lifetime credential. There is no renewal fee, no continuing-education unit treadmill, and no expiry date to track. Once you earn an ICP-level credential, it remains valid for the rest of your career.

The contrast with renewable certifications is significant over a working lifetime. A credential that must be renewed every one or two years quietly accumulates cost and administrative effort. An ICAgile credential is earned once. That said, lifetime validity is not a reason to stop learning. The value of agile coaching grows with practice, and many professionals stack additional tracks over time precisely because each one stays valid as their portfolio expands.

ICAgile vs Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org, and SAFe

These bodies are often compared, but they answer different questions. Scrum-focused bodies certify you in one framework. ICAgile certifies competencies that apply across frameworks. SAFe certifies you to operate a specific scaling model. The right choice depends on the role you are moving toward.

In practice, the credentials complement each other. A Scrum Master with a CSM or PSM often adds ICP-ATF and ICP-ACC to move from running ceremonies to coaching people. Someone in a SAFe environment may take ICP-LEA to strengthen the leadership behaviours that scaling alone does not teach. ICAgile is rarely a replacement and frequently the depth layer on top.

Which ICAgile certification should you start with?

If you are early in your agile journey, start with Agile Fundamentals (ICP). It gives you the shared language and mindset that every later track assumes. If your goal is to become an agile coach or scrum master who can genuinely coach, follow ICP with Agile Team Facilitation (ICP-ATF) and then Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC). If you are a product owner, Agile Product Ownership (ICP-APO) is the most direct fit. Leaders and managers should look at Leading with Agility (ICP-LEA) and, where the remit is organisation-wide, Business Agility Foundations (ICP-BAF).
