Agile Product Owner Certification (ICP-APO) is ICAgile's certification in product ownership. It covers how product ownership maximises value, the scope of the role, determining and communicating value, understanding stakeholders, exploring the solution and managing product artifacts. You earn it through a live ICAgile-accredited course, and it is valid for life.

You learn practical backlog management and prioritisation, how to frame and communicate value, and how to work with stakeholders who want different things. For your team, the result is a product owner who keeps the backlog focused on customer and business value, so the team spends its time on the work that matters most.

ICP-APO suits Product Owners and people moving into the role, such as Scrum Masters, business analysts and team leads in product-led organisations, as well as founders who want structured product ownership. Public ICP-APO cohorts run live online with a trainer, in part-day sessions. For company teams we also run private cohorts, on-site at your premises or live online. Delivered in English. Trainers for Arabic, Spanish, Bahasa Malaysia, German or French can be arranged for company cohorts on request.

ICP-APO is 14 hours of live, trainer-led training. Upcoming cohorts run as 3 sessions x 4.5 hrs each.

Yes. With 16 or more days notice before the first class day, you get a 90% refund; the 10% administrative fee is non-refundable. With 8 to 15 days notice, you get a 50% refund, or you can move once to a later cohort for a 10% administrative fee, which is non-refundable. With 7 days notice or less, there is no refund. Yes, as self-reported hours. PMI credential holders can report the live hours of ICP-APO as Education PDUs under Courses or Training, one PDU per hour, and keep the ICAgile certificate as evidence (PMI Continuing Certification Requirements Handbook, April 2026). Agile Visa is not a PMI Authorized Training Partner, so these hours are self-reported rather than pre-approved.

While no strict prerequisites exist, having a basic understanding of agile principles (such as holding the ICP Agile Fundamentals certification) is highly recommended.

No. There is no exam. You earn the ICP-APO certification by completing the full live, ICAgile-accredited course and demonstrating ICAgile's learning outcomes in the sessions. Your trainer assesses this through the class exercises and a final practical assessment, and the certification is then issued to you. It is valid for life.

No. The ICAgile Agile Product Ownership certification is valid for life and never requires renewal fees or professional development units (PDUs) to maintain.

A Product Owner is tactically focused on maximizing team delivery by managing the backlog and defining user stories. A Product Manager (ICP-PDM) is strategically focused on market research, vision, and long-term product-market fit.

CSPO is strictly tied to the Scrum framework. The ICAgile ICP-APO provides a broader, framework-agnostic approach, heavily emphasizing value-driven discovery, customer-centricity, and continuous validation beyond just Scrum mechanics.

No. While understanding the domain helps, the Product Owner's primary responsibility is understanding the customer's needs and the business value, not writing code or dictating technical architecture.

You will learn various prioritization frameworks, such as MoSCoW, WSJF (Weighted Shortest Job First), and Kano, to objectively balance customer needs, technical debt, and business ROI.
