If the job description in front of you literally says "CSM required", get CSM. In every other case ICP is the stronger first move: it covers the thinking every framework shares, it never expires, and it opens all of the ICAgile tracks rather than one role in one framework.
Is ICP recognised by employers like CSM is?
Yes. ICAgile is an established international certification body and ICP is its recognised entry credential. Many enterprises now name framework-neutral agile fundamentals in role descriptions precisely because their teams do not run textbook Scrum.
Is ICP easier than CSM?
There is no exam to fail, but ICP is competency-assessed: you earn it through participation in the live exercises. The two days of work are comparable; what differs is the breadth of what you walk away with.
Can I do ICP after CSM?
Yes, and it is a common path: CSM for a first Scrum role, then ICP and the ICAgile tracks when your work grows beyond a single framework.
