What it means to hire an agile coach
Training transfers knowledge. Coaching changes behaviour. An agile coach works inside your environment, observing how teams actually plan, build and collaborate, then helping them improve through guidance, facilitation and honest feedback. The value shows up in flow, predictability and the way people handle the hard conversations that delivery surfaces. When you hire an agile coach from Agile Visa, you engage a practitioner who has done this work inside real organisations, not a theorist reciting a framework.
Coaching is founder-led by Prashant Shinde, an ICAgile Authorised Instructor and HRD Corp Accredited Trainer. Agile Visa has been an ICAgile Member Organisation since December 2017 and has supported 75,000+ professionals across 140+ countries since 2017. You deal directly with the coach, which keeps the relationship accountable and the advice grounded in experience.
Who hires an agile coach, and why
- A single team that has stalled. The ceremonies happen but the outcomes do not. A coach diagnoses what is actually blocking flow and works with the team to fix it.
- A new product owner or scrum master. The role is hard to learn from a course alone. A coach provides the on-the-job mentoring that turns a certificate into competence.
- A leadership group sponsoring change. Transformation succeeds or fails at the leadership layer. A coach helps sponsors set the conditions, remove organisational blockers and model the behaviour they are asking of teams.
- An organisation scaling agility. Moving beyond a single team raises portfolio, funding and dependency questions that benefit from experienced guidance, aligned to our enterprise agility approach.
How a coaching engagement works
We do not parachute in with a fixed playbook. Every engagement follows a deliberate sequence.
1. Discovery call. A short, no-pressure conversation to understand what you are trying to achieve and whether coaching is the right intervention. Sometimes it is not, and we will say so.
2. Training Needs Analysis. A structured assessment of your teams, current ways of working, maturity and the business outcomes you want. This grounds the engagement in your real context rather than a generic model.
3. Engagement design. We agree scope, cadence, duration and success measures together. Coaching can run as a focused short burst, a regular weekly rhythm, or an embedded presence across a longer transformation.
4. Coaching delivery. Hands-on work with teams and leaders, onsite or live online. This blends observation, facilitation, mentoring and targeted training where a skills gap needs closing.
5. Capability handover. Good coaching makes itself unnecessary. We deliberately build internal capability so your own people can sustain the change. For organisations growing internal coaches, our agile coaching certification pathway complements the hands-on work.
Coaching, training and consulting work together
These are not competing options, they are different tools for different problems. Training builds foundational skills across a group. Coaching changes how people apply those skills day to day. Broader consulting and enterprise engagements address the structural and operating-model questions that sit above individual teams. Many clients combine all three, and we will recommend the right mix honestly rather than selling you the most expensive option.
An experienced coach, and lasting credentials
Experience is what you are really paying for when you hire a coach. The frameworks are public. The judgement about which lever to pull, and when, is not. Where certification forms part of an engagement, ICAgile credentials are awarded for life with no renewal fee and no continuing-education obligation, so the capability you build stays with your people.
| Credential family | Assessment | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| ICAgile (Agile Visa) | Instructor-assessed | Lifetime, no renewal, no fee |
| Scrum.org | Independent exam | Lifetime, no renewal |
| Scrum Alliance | Course-based | Renews roughly every two years with SEUs plus a fee |
| SAFe | Exam-based | Renews annually with a fee |
We share this because procurement and L&D teams reasonably ask how credentials compare. No single framework is right for everyone. We help you choose based on your goals, not ours.
Book a discovery call

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between hiring an agile coach and booking training?
Training transfers knowledge to a group in a structured course. Coaching changes behaviour by working alongside your teams in their real environment over time. Training is right when there is a clear skills gap to close. Coaching is right when teams know the theory but are not getting the outcomes. Many clients use both, and we will advise on the right balance during the discovery call rather than defaulting to the bigger engagement.
How long does a coaching engagement usually last?
It depends on the goal. A focused intervention with a single stalled team might run a few weeks. Mentoring a new product owner or scrum master often works as a regular weekly rhythm over a couple of months. An enterprise transformation may need an embedded presence across several months. We agree scope, cadence and duration together after the Training Needs Analysis, with clear success measures, so you are never locked into open-ended billing.
Can coaching be delivered remotely?
Yes. We coach both onsite and live online, and many engagements blend the two. Live online works well for distributed teams and keeps senior coaching time efficient. Onsite is valuable for kickoffs, leadership alignment and moments where being in the room matters. We will recommend the right mix based on your team locations and the nature of the work during engagement design.
Who is the coach, and what is their background?
Coaching is founder-led by Prashant Shinde, an ICAgile Authorised Instructor and HRD Corp Accredited Trainer with transformation experience inside large enterprises. Agile Visa has been an ICAgile Member Organisation since December 2017 and has supported 75,000+ professionals across 140+ countries. You work directly with the coach throughout, which keeps the engagement accountable and the guidance grounded in real practice.
Will hiring a coach create a dependency on Agile Visa?
The opposite is the goal. Good coaching makes itself unnecessary by building internal capability that your own people sustain after we leave. We design a deliberate capability handover into every engagement, and for organisations growing internal coaches our agile coaching certification pathway complements the hands-on work. You should expect to need us less over time, not more.
How do we get started?
Book a discovery call. It is a short, no-pressure conversation about what you are trying to achieve and whether coaching is the right intervention. If it is not the best fit, we will say so. If it is, we run a Training Needs Analysis, then design an engagement with agreed scope, cadence, duration and success measures before any coaching begins.
