ICAgile vs Scrum vs SAFe: Choosing an Agile Certification in Singapore

There is no single best agile certification, only the best fit for your role and goals. Scrum Alliance and Scrum.org credentials are framework specific and ideal for Scrum roles, SAFe suits enterprises that have standardised on scaled agile, and PMI-ACP validates broad agile knowledge through an exam. ICAgile stands apart as a competency based learning system that builds depth across coaching, product, leadership and AI, which is where Agile Visa focuses.

The five credentials at a glance

Most agile certifications offered to professionals in Singapore come from five bodies. Each has a different design philosophy, so comparing them on focus, depth, assessment style and ideal audience is more useful than ranking them. The table below summarises how they differ, and the sections after it explain when each one is the right call.

Certification body Focus Depth Assessment style Best for
ICAgile (e.g. ICP, ICP-ACC, ICP-ATF) Competency based learning across coaching, product, leadership, enterprise agility and AI Broad and deep, with structured tracks and a clear progression path Accredited, instructor led courses with competency based assessment rather than a single exam Coaches, agile leaders and practitioners who want applied capability and a career track
Scrum Alliance (CSM) The Scrum framework and the Scrum Master role Focused on one framework and role Live course plus an online knowledge test People starting in or formalising a Scrum Master or team role
Scrum.org (PSM) The Scrum framework, true to the Scrum Guide Focused, with a rigorous knowledge bar Open online exam with a high pass mark, no mandatory course Self directed learners who want a respected, exam based Scrum credential
Scaled Agile (SAFe) Scaling agile across large enterprises and portfolios Broad at the enterprise and program level Course plus a role specific online exam Organisations that have standardised on the SAFe operating model
PMI (PMI-ACP) Broad agile knowledge across multiple methods Wide coverage at the practitioner level Eligibility requirements plus a multiple choice exam Project professionals and PMI members wanting a recognised exam credential

When ICAgile is the right fit

ICAgile is built differently from the framework specific credentials. Instead of certifying knowledge of one method, it defines competencies and certifies that you have learned and practised them through accredited courses. That design favours depth. The Agile Coaching certification, ICP-ACC, for example, develops professional coaching, mentoring and facilitation skills that go well beyond running a stand up, and the leadership track develops the change capability that transformations actually depend on.

This is the space Agile Visa chose to operate in. Our foundational course, ICP (ICAgile Certified Professional in Agile Fundamentals), is SGD 649, and ICP-ACC is SGD 699, both stated in SGD before GST where applicable. We pair these tracks with AI enabled agile skills so practitioners learn to coach and lead in an environment where AI is part of the team. If your goal is to become a credible coach, a capable agile leader or a practitioner with genuine breadth, ICAgile usually fits best.

Coaching capability

ICP-ACC develops real coaching, mentoring and facilitation skills, not just ceremony mechanics, which is what senior roles are expected to demonstrate.

Career progression

Tracks for coaching, product, delivery and leadership give a structured path rather than a single role badge.

AI integrated practice

Agile Visa layers AI enabled skills onto ICAgile tracks so you learn to lead teams where AI is a working teammate.

When Scrum Alliance or Scrum.org is the right fit

If you work in or are moving into a Scrum Master or team role, a Scrum specific credential is the most directly aligned choice, and both bodies are well recognised by Singapore employers. Scrum Alliance CSM is course based and welcoming for newcomers, with a live class and an online knowledge test. Scrum.org PSM is exam based with a high pass mark and no mandatory course, which suits self directed learners who want to prove a strong grasp of the Scrum Guide. Neither competes directly with ICAgile. Many practitioners hold a Scrum credential for role recognition and build ICAgile competencies such as ICP-ATF or ICP-ACC for the facilitation and coaching depth that comes next.

When SAFe is the right fit

SAFe is the most prescriptive of these options and is built for scaling agile across large organisations, portfolios and trains. If your employer has standardised on SAFe, the matching role certifications give you a shared language with the rest of the enterprise, which is valuable. Agile Visa does not offer SAFe certification. We focus on ICAgile and AI enabled agile skills, so we can go deep on coaching, product, leadership and AI rather than spreading across every framework. In practice, many organisations that run SAFe still invest in ICAgile coaching and leadership courses for the human and capability side of their transformation.

Agile Visa courses are currently offered at full fee. Government subsidies are not currently applied to our courses. Singapore schemes such as SkillsFuture Credit, SSG course grants, UTAP and PSEA exist to support continuing education in general, and you can learn how each works through the administering agencies, but none of them is being applied to Agile Visa course fees at this time. Our SGD prices are listed as full fee and are subject to GST where applicable.

When PMI-ACP is the right fit

PMI-ACP suits project professionals, especially existing PMI members, who want a widely recognised exam credential that spans multiple agile methods rather than a single framework. It validates broad knowledge through a multiple choice exam with eligibility requirements. If you value a well known exam name and broad coverage, it is a sound choice. If you value practised, applied capability and a track that maps to a clear direction such as agile coaching, an ICAgile path tends to serve that goal better, since assessment is competency based rather than a single test.

A simple way to decide

Match the credential to your destination, not to its popularity. The cards below summarise the common starting points we see with professionals in Singapore.

New to agile

Start with fundamentals. ICP at SGD 649 builds a solid base, and a Scrum credential adds role recognition if you are heading into a Scrum team.

Becoming a coach

Choose ICP-ACC at SGD 699 for genuine coaching, mentoring and facilitation depth that senior roles expect.

Leading a transformation

Look at the ICAgile leadership and enterprise tracks, which develop the change and people capability that scaled rollouts rely on.

Working in product

ICP-PDM develops product management depth, while AI micro-credentials at SGD 279 add modern, AI enabled product skills.

Frequently asked questions

Is ICAgile better than Scrum Alliance?

Neither is universally better, because they solve different problems. Scrum Alliance certifications such as CSM are role specific and centred on the Scrum framework, which makes them an efficient choice if your team runs Scrum and you want a recognised credential for one role. ICAgile is a competency based learning system that spans coaching, product ownership, agile leadership, enterprise agility and more, so it tends to suit people who want depth across the wider agile landscape rather than a single framework. If your goal is breadth, coaching capability and a structured progression path, ICAgile usually fits better. If your goal is a fast, framework specific Scrum credential, Scrum Alliance is a strong choice.

Which certification is best for a Scrum Master in Singapore?

For a Scrum Master role in Singapore, the most directly aligned credentials are Scrum Alliance CSM and Scrum.org PSM, since both are built around the Scrum framework that the role uses every day. Many Singapore employers recognise either one. If you want to grow beyond the mechanics of Scrum into facilitation, coaching and team development, an ICAgile path such as ICP and then ICP-ATF or ICP-ACC adds the depth that senior Scrum Masters and coaches are expected to demonstrate. A practical route is to hold a Scrum credential for role recognition and build ICAgile competencies for long term career growth.

Does Agile Visa offer SAFe certification?

No. Agile Visa focuses on ICAgile certifications and AI enabled agile skills, not Scaled Agile SAFe certification. We made this choice deliberately so we can go deep on coaching, product, leadership and AI integrated practice rather than spreading across every framework. If your organisation has standardised on SAFe, you can pursue SAFe through a Scaled Agile partner, and many of our clients pair SAFe role training with ICAgile coaching and leadership courses for the human and capability side of transformation.

How much do ICAgile certifications cost at Agile Visa in SGD?

Agile Visa prices its foundational ICAgile course, ICP (ICAgile Certified Professional in Agile Fundamentals), at SGD 649. ICP-ACC, the Agile Coaching certification, is SGD 699. Other ICAgile courses range across the catalogue, for example ICP-ATF at SGD 689 and ICP-ENT at SGD 799, and AI micro-credentials are SGD 279 each. Prices are stated in SGD and are subject to GST where applicable. Agile Visa courses are currently offered at full fee with no government subsidy applied.

Should I choose PMI-ACP or an ICAgile certification?

PMI-ACP is an exam based credential that validates broad agile knowledge across multiple methods, which appeals to project professionals and PMI members who want a recognised name on a single exam. ICAgile uses accredited, instructor led learning with competency based assessment rather than a single multiple choice exam, so it tends to suit people who want practised, applied capability and a clear progression across coaching, product and leadership tracks. Choose PMI-ACP if you value a well known exam credential and broad coverage. Choose ICAgile if you want depth, hands on practice and a track that maps to a specific career direction such as agile coaching.
