What is Lean Six Sigma?
Lean removes waste and delay from a process: waiting, rework, extra steps and needless handovers. Six Sigma cuts errors and variation using data, so results become predictable. Lean Six Sigma uses both.
Projects follow five steps, known as DMAIC: Define the problem, Measure how the process performs today, Analyse the real causes, Improve the process and test the change, and Control it so the gain lasts.
Belts show the depth of skill. Yellow Belts improve their own work and join projects. Green Belts lead projects alongside their day job. Black Belts lead complex projects and coach Green Belts. Master Black Belts run the whole improvement programme and teach the others.
Which belt is right for you?
You can start at Yellow or Green Belt. Black Belt and Master Black Belt build on real project experience.
| Belt | Length | Your role afterwards | Who it is for | Certification options |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow Belt | 2 days, 14 hours | Team member: spots waste, joins Kaizens, improves own area | Anyone who improves their own work: production, quality, nursing, sales, HR, finance and shared services | Agile Visa certificate, plus the free online 6sigmastudy Six Sigma Yellow Belt exam if you want it |
| Green Belt | 5 days, 35 hours | Project leader: leads DMAIC projects part time, with data | Engineers, supervisors, analysts and managers who will lead projects | Agile Visa certificate, plus an optional independent Green Belt exam |
| Black Belt | 10 days, 70 hours, in two blocks | Programme expert: leads complex, cross site projects and coaches Green Belts | Green Belts with at least two completed projects and measured results | Agile Visa certificate, plus an optional independent Black Belt exam |
| Master Black Belt | 5 days, 35 hours | Programme leader: runs the improvement programme, trains and coaches the belts | Experienced Black Belts who will lead the programme | Agile Visa certificate; external certification on request |
| Leaders and sponsors | 1 day, 7 hours | Sponsor: chooses projects and clears blockers | Managers who sponsor improvement projects | Agile Visa certificate |
Moving up: Yellow to Green after contributing to at least one Kaizen, with a project idea and a sponsor. Green to Black after at least two completed projects with measured results. Black to Master Black Belt after leading several projects and coaching Green Belts.

Is Lean Six Sigma certification included?
- We are independent. Agile Visa is a training provider. We are not accredited by, or a partner of, any exam body. Each exam body sets its own exam and issues its own certificate.
- Our certificate. Every participant who completes a course receives an Agile Visa Certificate of Completion. Many companies train without exams and track results through real projects instead.
- Yellow Belt exam. After the course you can take the free online Six Sigma Yellow Belt (SSYB) exam on the 6sigmastudy website. 6sigmastudy runs the exam and issues the certificate. It has 40 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes, you need 28 correct answers to pass, and it is not supervised.
- Green Belt and Black Belt exams. After the course you can sit an independent, closed book certification exam, taken online with remote supervision. The exam body marks it and issues the certificate, not Agile Visa. We can arrange the exam for you, quoted as a separate line.
- Master Black Belt. Few exam bodies certify Master Black Belts, so we discuss the options with you before the programme starts.
- No shortcuts. You do not need our course, or any course, to sit these exams, and finishing a course does not by itself make you certified.

How we measure success
Reaction
Did people value it? End of course feedback from every participant.
Learning
Did they learn it? Daily quizzes, the Kaizen A3, tollgate reviews and exam results where you choose exams.
Behaviour
Do they use it at work? Kaizens and projects completed at the 30, 60 and 90 day check points.
Results
Did the business improve? Measured gains in time, errors, complaints or cost.
Keeping improvement going
Weekly huddle
A 10 minute team stand up at a visual board: problems seen, ideas and actions.
Monthly Kaizen
One improvement per team, led by a Yellow Belt and sponsored by a Green Belt.
Reviews every 30 days
Sponsors run tollgate reviews until each Green Belt project closes.
Quarterly showcase
Teams present results to leadership, and the best are recognised.
A day for leaders and sponsors
Projects succeed or stall on sponsorship. This one day session shows managers how to choose projects that matter, set clear goals, run short reviews at the end of each DMAIC step and clear the blockers their Green Belts meet. It works best in the week before a Green Belt class starts.

Is Lean Six Sigma training HRD Corp claimable?

- HRD Corp Claimable. Agile Visa Sdn Bhd is an HRD Corp Registered Training Provider, and these programmes are HRD Corp Claimable for employers registered with HRD Corp.
- Apply before the class. Your company applies for the grant in eTRiS under the HRD Corp Claimable Courses scheme, using our quotation, trainer profile and schedule. HRD Corp must approve an in-house grant at least 14 days before the first day, and decides on every application.
- The limits. For in-house training, HRD Corp's course fee limit is RM 10,500 per group for a 7 hour day. The approved fee is paid to us from your levy, so you do not pay that part upfront. Anything above the limits, or not approved, is paid by your company.
- Attendance. Each participant must attend at least 75% of the training hours for the claim to be paid.
- Exam fees. HRD Corp can accept certification and exam fees quoted by the exam body as a separate line in a grant. We confirm with you which parts of the fee can go into your application before you apply.
- Class size. We run classes of up to 25 people so everyone works on a real problem. That also fits HRD Corp's group limit for technical courses.

Questions about Lean Six Sigma training in Malaysia
What is Lean Six Sigma, in simple words?
A practical way to improve work. Lean removes waste and delay, Six Sigma uses data to cut errors and variation, and projects follow five steps: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control.
Which belts do you offer?
Yellow Belt (2 days), Green Belt (5 days), Black Belt (10 days in two blocks) and Master Black Belt (5 days), plus a one day session for leaders and sponsors.
Which belt should I start with?
Yellow Belt if you want to improve your own work and support projects. Green Belt if you will lead projects. Black Belt once you have led at least two projects with measured results.
Can I go straight to Green Belt?
Yes. The exam bodies we prepare people for set no prerequisite for Green Belt, and day 1 of the course covers the basics.
Is certification included?
Certification is your choice. Every participant receives an Agile Visa Certificate of Completion, and we can add an independent exam for Yellow, Green or Black Belt. The Yellow Belt exam from 6sigmastudy is free.
Which certificate will I get, and who issues it?
Everyone who completes a course receives an Agile Visa Certificate of Completion. If you pass an exam, the exam body issues its own certificate, not Agile Visa.
Is Lean Six Sigma training HRD Corp claimable?
Yes, for employers registered with HRD Corp. Your company applies in eTRiS before the class starts, and HRD Corp decides on every application.
Is the exam fee claimable too?
HRD Corp can accept certification and exam fees quoted by the exam body as a separate line in a grant. Whether yours is approved depends on how the course is registered and on HRD Corp, so we confirm it with you before you apply.
Do I need a project to get certified?
Not for the Yellow Belt or Green Belt exams. We still build each course around a real process, and suggest one Kaizen within 30 days and a project within 90 days.
Do I need Minitab or strong statistics?
No for Yellow and Green Belt: Excel is enough, and the statistics are taught step by step. Black Belts benefit from Minitab or similar software, which we use if your company has it.
Online or classroom?
Both run live with the trainer. In-house classroom works best for Kaizen on a real process. HRD Corp treats live online training the same way as face to face for claims.
How much does Lean Six Sigma training cost in Malaysia?
We quote each programme on request, per group for in-house training, within HRD Corp's limits, with any exam fee on its own line. Tell us the belt, the number of people and the location.
Can you run it at our site in Penang, Kulim or Johor?
Yes. We run programmes in-house anywhere in Malaysia, including Penang, Kulim, the Klang Valley, Johor, Melaka, Ipoh, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, or live online.
What is the difference between Lean and Six Sigma?
Lean removes waste and delay from a process, such as waiting, rework and extra steps. Six Sigma uses data to cut errors and variation. Lean Six Sigma combines both, so a process becomes faster and more reliable at the same time.
Is Lean Six Sigma certification recognised in Malaysia?
There is no single official body for Lean Six Sigma, in Malaysia or anywhere else. Employers look at who issued the certificate, whether the exam was independent and supervised, and whether the person completed a real project. Our courses give you a real project and an Agile Visa certificate of completion, and an independent exam when you want one.
How long does it take to become a Green Belt?
The Green Belt course is 5 days. If you choose the exam, you can sit it soon after the course. A first project usually shows results in about 90 days.
Does Lean Six Sigma work outside manufacturing?
Yes. Hospitals, banks, shared service centres, logistics companies and government agencies use it to cut waiting times, errors and rework. We tailor the examples to your industry.
How many people can join one class?
Up to 25, so everyone works on a real process or project. Larger groups run as several classes.
