What is SkillsFuture Credit

SkillsFuture Credit is a personal training subsidy administered by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). Every Singapore citizen aged 25 and above received an opening credit of S$500 when the scheme launched in 2015. The opening credit does not expire. Citizens aged 40 and above also received a S$4,000 Mid Career top up, which is subject to a specific validity period. The credit can only be used for SSG approved courses delivered by SSG approved Training Providers, and it is paid directly from the Government to the Training Provider. It never lands in your bank account.

The scheme was designed to push lifelong learning into the working population. For AI and Agile training, the operational reality is straightforward. If the course is on the MySkillsFuture course directory and you are eligible, the credit reduces your out of pocket cost. If the course is not on the directory, no credit applies regardless of how relevant the topic is to your career.

Who qualifies

  • Singapore citizens aged 25 and above are eligible to use SkillsFuture Credit. Permanent Residents are not eligible for the personal credit, though they may access other schemes.
  • Employment status does not matter. Employed, self employed, between jobs, returning caregivers, and career switchers are all eligible.
  • Aged 40 and above citizens additionally have access to the Mid Career top up. This is a separate balance that must be used within its validity window.
  • The course must be SSG approved. Eligibility flows from the course, not from the learner. A relevant topic delivered by a non approved provider does not qualify.
  • You must be the named learner. The credit cannot be transferred, gifted, or used to pay for a family member's course.

How to claim SkillsFuture Credit, step by step

The claim process is operated entirely through the MySkillsFuture portal using Singpass authentication. The order of operations matters. Submitting in the wrong order is the most common reason claims fail.

  1. Confirm the course is SSG approved. Search the course title on MySkillsFuture.gov.sg. The Training Provider name and course title must match exactly. If the course is not listed, no SkillsFuture Credit applies.
  2. Log in with Singpass. Sign in at MySkillsFuture and check your credit balance. Note both the opening credit and any active top ups, since they may have different validity periods.
  3. Register with the Training Provider first. Get a course registration reference from the provider. Most providers will email this within one to two working days.
  4. Submit the claim within the 60 day window. Claims can be submitted up to 60 days before the course start date but must be submitted no later than the day before the course begins.
  5. Pay the balance to the Training Provider. The credit offsets the course fee. You pay any remaining balance directly to the provider via their accepted payment methods.
  6. Attend the course and complete the assessment. Failing to meet attendance or assessment requirements can trigger a claw back from SSG.

Five mistakes that get SkillsFuture Credit claims rejected

Across thousands of claims, the same five errors recur. Avoiding them is the difference between paying the published fee and paying it net of credit.

  1. Submitting after the course has started. The system blocks claims submitted on or after the course start date. There is no retroactive submission.
  2. Claiming a course that is not SSG approved. A topic match is not enough. The exact course title and Training Provider must be listed on the MySkillsFuture directory.
  3. Misreading the credit balance. The opening S$500 and the Mid Career S$4,000 top up have different validity rules. Treat them as separate budgets, not a single pool.
  4. Booking before checking eligibility. Some learners book and pay the full course fee first, expecting to claim retroactively. The credit is paid to the Training Provider, not the learner. Pay first and you forfeit the offset.
  5. Failing the attendance requirement. Missing more than the permitted number of sessions can result in SSG clawing back the credit. The learner is then liable for the difference.

How this applies to Agile Visa training

Current status, plain and honest. Agile Visa is in the process of registering specific courses with SSG. Until SSG approval is in place for a given course, that course is offered at full fee in SGD and SkillsFuture Credit cannot be applied to it. The current accreditation status of each course is shown on its individual course page. If you would like to be notified the moment a course becomes SkillsFuture eligible, subscribe to our newsletter or speak with our team.

Agile Visa has trained 75,000+ professionals across 140+ countries with cohorts since 2017. We are an ICAgile Member Organization. Founder Prashant Shinde designs each curriculum to focus on operator level skills, which is the bar SSG looks for when assessing courses for inclusion. Our team will publish accreditation updates on each course page as they land.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use SkillsFuture Credit for an online AI course?

Yes, provided the online course is registered with SSG and listed on the MySkillsFuture directory under an approved Training Provider. Self study videos and unaccredited webinars are not eligible.

What if my employer also funds part of the course?

SkillsFuture Credit is for individuals and cannot be stacked with employer sponsored training under the same claim. If your employer pays, the funding usually flows through a different scheme such as SFEC, and SkillsFuture Credit is not applied.

Do I need to be employed to use SkillsFuture Credit?

No. SkillsFuture Credit is available to all Singapore citizens aged 25 and above regardless of employment status. Career switchers, returning caregivers, and self employed individuals are eligible.

Does SkillsFuture Credit expire?

The opening S$500 credit issued in 2015 does not expire. Subsequent top ups, including the S$4,000 Mid Career top up for those aged 40 and above, are subject to specific validity periods set by SSG.

Can I use SkillsFuture Credit for an overseas AI course?

Only if the overseas course is registered with SSG. Most overseas providers are not. The credit is intended for the SSG funded ecosystem and is paid directly to the Training Provider.

Can I claim SkillsFuture Credit after the course has started?

No. Claims must be submitted before the course start date. Submitting after the course begins is one of the most common reasons claims are rejected.

What happens if I drop out partway through?

If you fail to meet attendance or assessment requirements, SSG may claw back the credit and you may need to refund the amount. Check the Training Provider's withdrawal policy before enrolling.

Are AI prompt engineering and agentic AI courses covered?

They are covered if the specific course is on the SSG funded course list. Topic alone does not determine eligibility. The Training Provider and the specific course code must both be SSG approved.
