What is Psychological Safety in Agile?

Psychological safety is the shared belief that a team member will not be punished, humiliated, or marginalized for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes.

Without psychological safety, Agile ceremonies fail. Retrospectives become blame-shifting sessions, and daily stand-ups turn into status reports for management.

Agile Team Facilitators must cultivate this environment. When failure is treated as an experiment rather than a career-limiting event, teams innovate faster, uncover systemic bugs earlier, and establish true continuous improvement.
